Overall Analysis
Motherless Daughters- The Legacy of Loss is a non fictional, informational passage about these women's thoughts, feelings and reactions to losing their mothers at an early age. In this book, the main woman, Hope Edelman is trying to make sense of why and how her, as well as other young men's mothers passed away so young. Edelman even looks at the statistics of her mother and other women's mother passing away before their fathers. "Today, the average 20-year old caucasian male is expected to live to 74, but a 20-year old Caucasian woman has a good chance of turning 80.. Among African-Americans the difference is even more dramatic: the average 20-year old man only lives until 67, but his wife will probably see 75." Some of the young woman had such a hard time during their lives, dealing with not having a mother, did some irrational and unwise things to either get attention from their father because he had gone into a deep depression and stopped paying his children any mind, or they tried filling their lives with other worldly things such as: Being a workaholic, drugs, smoking, alcohol, sex and others. These females all had a very difficult time dealing with the pain, frustration and heartache of not having a mother around, to love, hold, and comfort them.
